Car d’Lane Classic Car Parade
One of my favorite events – at the start of the summer – Car d’Lane! I met up with some friends and neighbors and put our chairs out early on Sherman Ave. At 6:00, the classic cars roll downtown. We were jammed pack on the sidewalks and we all talked about the cars that we had or had riden in when we were younger! The flames and lights started at dusk! That was last night, and today husband and son walked downtown to view the hundreds of classic cars on display. Of course, I ran into people I knew, but not many with their own classic car! This is always a good event for Fathers Day Weekend! Cheers!

St. Patricks Day Downtown Coeur d’Alene!
Our resort town has so much spirit………I just had to go watch the very small but energetic St. Patrick’s Day Parade! There were only a handful of entrants which included dressed-up green dogs, sheep with their sheep herder, horses, the Firetruck and of course Coeur d’Alene’s finest firefighters! They call themselves “Firefighters Pipe and Drum Band! What is better than gorgeous Firemen in kilted skirts playing their bagpipes! I followed them from the parade to The Beacon and to The Moose. I heard they were going all over town up until the 11:00 or midnight hour! Thank you!

Real Estate Market Forum 2012
I attended the annual “Real Estate Market Forum” this week at the Coeur d’Alene Resort. There were speakers presenting employment, real estate trends and market statistics. A dozen leaders from the Spokane and Coeur d’alene communities gave their predicted forecasts. Overall, 2012 will be a slow climb and not a full-blown recovery. Most said the housing market and the overall job picture won’t approach normal growth rates until 2013. Retail growth is bright and looks stronger. There is affordable retail space that is appealing to companies and restaurants are also expanding. Demand has grown in the multi-family market, with rent rates on the rise. But overall office space has a large vacancy rate.
Lawrence Yun, the Chief Economist for the National Association of Realtors was the keynote speaker. “Housing affordability conditions, based on the relationship between median home prices, mortgage interest rates, and median family income, have been at a record high in 2011,” Yun said. “Very favorable affordability conditions will dominate 2012 as well, which will probably be the second best year on record dating back to 1970. Our hope is that credit restrictions will ease and allow more home buyers to take advantage of current opportunities.” He said if the banks would loosen their credit requirements, 15-20% more homes would be sold.

Coeur d’Alene Resort named a top holiday destination!
The Coeur d’Alene Resort earned the eigth place out of 16 on Travel and Leisure magazine’s list of Best U.S. Hotels for the Holidays. The magazine features a photo of The Resort’s Holiday Light Show, stating that it’s the largest in the country with 1.5 million lights twinkling over buildings and trees. It is quite spectacular and always a holiday treat! I was walking downtown last night with friends and we wondered over to stand and look at the Resort and the lights on the boardwalk. Thank you Mr. Hagadone!

Turkey Crossing in Downtown!
It is such a site to see two dozen turkeys crossing the street in Sanders Beach! They have been strolling around for weeks and finding plenty of food in the yards and at the base of Tubbs Hill. Everyone is talking about them! I’ve heard they can be a nuisance and some neighborhoods in other areas are annoyed. They claim that the flocks are tying up traffic and the males are attacking. We are amused here and we’re all wondering if they’ll disappear or where they will go the week prior to Thanksgiving!

Fall is in the air!
The leaves are changing, the temperatures dipping and the sun is shining on downtown! October has truly been gorgeous and a blessing after such a short summer!
